Walter Leland Cronkite (1961- ) He was born in St. Joseph, Mo. Raised in Houston, Texas, he decided to become a journalist after reading a magazine article about a foreign correspondent. He went on to become the most respected correspondent for CBS. And anchored the evening news since 1962 until his retirement in 1981. He was thought to be the most trusted man in America and loved space travel. This week he returned to host John Glenn's return to space for CNN.

Dan Rather (1931- ) He is one of the three premier news anchors of this country. Born in Wharton Texas. His first claim to fame was his coverage of Hurricane Carla in 1961 which led his path up the CBS news hierarchy. 

Lee Iacocca (1924- ), American corporate executive, born in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In 1960 he became vice president and general manager of the Ford Motor Company. With an intuitive flair for consumers' wants, Iacocca developed the sporty Mustang, the popular Mercury Cougar, and the luxurious Lincoln Mark III. By 1970 he had been named president of Ford. After being dismissed in 1978, Iacocca became president and chief executive officer of Chrysler Corporation. The company was plagued with financial difficulties, but Iacocca's recovery measures reinvigorated it. He retired in 1992.

H.G. Wells (1866-1946) is known best for his science fiction thriller "War of the Worlds". A prolific writer he produced some of the greatest works of fiction in the 20th century. His ability to weave a tale was so convincing it caused many who heard his radio shows to take it as the complete truth. In the process he orchestrated mass pandemonium in the United States and to a lesser degree elsewhere. Wells was a master at taking what many might embrace as a wonder to dream about and showing us a much darker side to this vision of fantasy. Read his books on-line
